International Women's Day March 12

March 12th, 2011

International Women's Day March 12

A GREAT BIG THANK YOU to all the wonderful staff and CNH supporters
who volunteered on International Women’s Day on Saturday March 12th.

A delicious breakfast of special omelettes, hash browns, fruit trays, croissants, fried eggs, boiled eggs, toast, coffee, juice and tea was prepared by the men, headed up by our very own MOE. About 60 women attended the breakfast, accompanied by Safia  Hirsi and the Women’s Club workers, Afroza Sultana, Calavathy Waithilingam, Fatuma Heid, and Sue Chin. Other staff members also attended the breakfast, some with their children!

Particular thanks go to the Young Women’s Club participants, Destiny, Chanel, and Shakorah, for putting together beautiful gift packages which were donated from the Beauty Supply Outlet.

Special thanks for volunteering to cook and serve breakfast go out to:

Moe Sukraj
Delroy Grosso
Robert Butler
Philip Unrau
Howard Barrett (and another special thank you to Howard’s daughter!)
Malith Ayii
Raj Santhaneswaran
Jahbril Price-Noel
Jake Lorimer
Navjeet Sidhu
Thanks also to John Peltier for sending muffins!Thank you to Toyin Lawal and Abdi Abdikadir who were on hand as support staff. Thanks to Rebecca Price, Pretheepa Nageswaran, and Calavathy Waithilingam for taking fabulous pictures, which will be soon available on the shared drive and website.

After the breakfast, about thirty women travelled by TTC to the IWD march at OISE. After listening to the speeches at the rally in the auditorium, we marched along Bloor Street to Yonge and then to Ryerson University. The Women’s Club participants held beautiful embroidered banners along the route, proclaiming equality for everyone!

Thank you to the IWD committee, Safia Hirsi, Rebecca Price, Pretheepa Nageswaran, Chantel Guthrie, Amanda LaRonde, Irene Ryner, Gertrude Mushikori, Helen Hasiuk, and Cal Lorimer.

Thanks again to everyone for making the day such a success!
